The Seargeant Major never went into great deatail about the maltrearment
at JFK. He just mentioned the insults and the way the man insulted the
Queen.
I expect you are the same as him. To most of us, the Queen is just a fact
of life like the weather and most of us don't give her much thought, so an
insult to HMQ did not bother him.
One thing about Her maj is that she goes everywhere by private
airliner.They never publish any details of what it is and when it is
flying
for obvious reasons. I do know that she has visited Australia and a couple
of other warm places as is normal in Winter. She will probably be at
Balmoral in Scotland over Christmas so that she can give the Queen's
Speech on Christmas Day then, maybe an official visit to some other safe,
warm place in the commonwealth. Good luck to her and Charles and all the
rest.
The bit that surprised me was the news that everything in America ia
expensive now so, even though I had this thought od maybe visiting new
Orleans to taste the food and listen to the jazz, I think I'll forget it.
The idea of having to fill in that ESTA put me off four years ago. This
latest just adds fuel to the fire.
I would have thought that America which is suffering financially and in
debt to the Chinese would welcome tourists. They are not going to get many
if stories like this get around.
As for that last problem at Schiphol, Amsterdam. It was self inflicted
really. I was standing in a queue with my friend who is the same age as
Bob when I needed to go to the toilet which turned out to be a very long
way away. I was gone so long that my froend also got the urge to go and
set off, leaving the bags unattended so the expected happened. I arrived
back at the bags to find myself surrounded with machine guns.
A brief explanation and an apology soon quitened them down, my friend
returned and we both got the lecture then, away they went.
Qute mild for Schiphol, they can get really nasty when they want to but,
at least, I avoided the dreaded body search.
From what you and the Old Seargeant Major have said, JFK IS far worse than
Schiphol.
I might just do a review of airports for TripAdvisor and see if we can't
get a list of the Worlds Worst Airports going.
