Hi Bob,
This is not a locomotive but a stationary engine. Roughly 2 inch bore 4
inch stroke horizontal single cylinder double power stroke with sliding
valve system.
I have it in bits at the moment I am in the process of replacing the main
shaft and bearings. Originally it had whitemetal bearings but on my last
house move the movers must have put something on top of the flywheel and
bent the main shaft. I plan on replacing the whitemetal with self aligning
roller bearings.
I have turned up a new flywheel and am considering how to balance the main
shaft..
In the original plans there was no provision made to balance anything.
When the engine is running it nearly shakes the shed down. Most of the
vibration comes from the big end which is basically just a "u" shape in
the main shaft.
I am going to try one of the more complex big end shapes something like a
motor cycle big end which should make things a lot smoother.
