Hi all,

Is it me or are there less vehicles around on the roads? I did hear the
poorest people were making less car (auto) journeys'. I did hear traffic
had lessened by as much as a round 20%, but as a singular statistic I am
unsure of the data.

It may appear the great price rise has started a rationing of fuel use.
This may happen as the poorer of society are priced out of private
transport. Even public transport is getting expensive. Walking is becoming
a necessity. This is early days, but the commute to work is now becoming
expensive enough to limit the commute travel length.

We cannot hang onto cleaning staff at work due to the location being on
the outskirts of the city and the low wage levels. Those who do start with
us soon find the actual spending power is worse off than social security
benefits of unemployment. The take home pay is swallowed by transport
costs.

As far as I can see food prices are rising as well due to fuel price
rises. The farmer has fuel costs. The chemicals used by the farmer from
pesticides to fertiliser are rising and do not forget farm machinery. The
road transport costs. The processing of the food before it is packaged in
fuel, plastic is oil based remember. Then the super-market adds on costs.
Each layer of production needing to keep the bottom line in the black.

The structure of society will now change due to the peak oil price rises.
In some ways the production worker I can see returning to victorian travel
distances into the shadow of the factory. Plus the shop floor worker will
not have his or her own vehicle.

On a change of tak, the solar pannel is now as the sunny weather is here
prividing enough power to keep the battery system charged. I have purchsed
a table lamp. I removed the mains plug and connected the luminare to the
battery and replaced the mains lamp with a twelve volt compact flourescent
lamp. I am typing in the dark illuminated by stored solar power. At last
my night time lighting is off the grid until next altumn (fall) and the
shorter days.
