Hi Bob and all,
Here we go again with hearsay.
"The Shell Oil Company issued a warning..."
That clearly indicates a third party wrote it and gave NO indication of
the country of origin. Shell is a multinational corporation so where did
these alledged incidents occur? Note the word alledged, I'm sure you know
what it means and why the news media uses it.
That can't happen in the US with fuel vapor collection systems, another
indication it didn't happen here is the word MOBILE phone never used in
the US, we call them CELL phones. The reason is clear, the VHF mobile
system with its limited channels long ago gave way to the cellular system
so we no longer refer to them as mobile. Oh and they're another animal
altogether, mobile phones were large vehicle mounted affairs much like PS
and Amateur radios of the day, rather beastly.
"Now I don't know whether that is all true or not..."
If you don't know by now you never will and having drawn that conclusion
I see no point in further argument with a stone. I leave you with this to
ponder if you will, only three out of countless incidents leads me to
conclude that those mobile phones malfunctioned or the fumes found an
incidental source of ignition.
"I will not take the risk and use my phone while refuelling my car."
That's entirely up to you and quite meaningless to me. Now it would be
interesting what the National Bureau of Mines would have to say if cell
phones worked underground. (;->)
