OK correct me if I am wrong; the fuel cell uses hydrogen to make
electricity I got that bit. I assume the fuel cell is a secondary
(rechargeable) battery. So to clean up the debate where is the primary
source of energy coming from?

I look at a few ideas of using batteries, but they are recharged from the
mains power. The primary sources of energy are fossil fuels and hence they
have a carbon foot print in the UK. There are hydro power stations, atomic
and gas powered sources. Sadly the green sources, wind, solar and
geothermal are still insignificant yet (I hope they get bigger). Tidal
power is a concept but not commercially viable yet in any scale, however a
large experiment is on its way in the northern isles of Scotland.

I myself use a solar panel and very good it is when the sun shines in
better weather. However in the depths of winter I have to resort to a
mains charger on off peak cheaper electricity in winter to top up the
battery.

The simple fact is the amount of energy we all use. The green energy
enthusiasts are sadly only nibbling at the problem. When my heating boiler
failed I had to use electric heaters to warm this place. I found four
thousand watts was not enough to properly heat the old place. The gas
powered boiler is fixed now.

The only real driver of alternative energy is price. We all like to use
the cheapest source of energy or go bankrupt. With peak oil now upon us
and the price of fuel climbing the beginning of demand for better more
environmental ways are coming. Have you given a thought to peak coal? That
too will follow.

From now on we will all experience the price of fuel beginning to rise
very dramatically. If you wish to see the result ask the person who shops
for food in your home. The food bill is climbing as transportation and
fertilisers cost more. It is costing more to move, grow crops and attend
to the fields. This is often overlooked by families as it is diverse and
creeping. However the trend has cause the beginning of food price riots in
some countries I noticed on the news recently. Now add in gas and
electricity prices, OUTCH!

The world price for wheat is going up. This when used to make flour. This
will cause a price hike in your daily bread.

This year you may need to take account of you home finances as every bill
and cost is set to rise with peak oil. That most people think of
transportation is in my humble opinion for what it is worth not enough.
Keep an eye on world food prices for wheat, potatoes and rice. Some other
produce may also be watched according to your diet staples.

Continue to debate please, but dump the attitude as this will get scarier
yet without the bickering.
