Ah, you mentioned Docklands Light Rwy. which is a name I haven't heard in
a few years, seems it's still alive and well. (;->) Oh I can find up to
date technology in the US but rather little of it comparatively speaking.
There are a few reasons, one of which is this is a large country with
pockets of this and that scattered about whereas Europe for comparison is
far more densely packed so it's highly visible. (Lame excuse, hi.)
Overall you're right, because of greenies, nimbys and cheap fuel for so
long there has been much foot dragging and little incentive to move
forward, add self serving political interests focusing on special
interest while ignoring the good of the country and we got caught with
our pants down. Like I said about Obama, funny boy promises "hope and
change" once again in the face of a RECESSION??? OK smarty pants, where
will the money come from THIS time? This clown is such a joker he won't
be booted out of office, he'll be laughed out.
I think you have the wrong idea what NAFTA is all about, it in no way
failed but on the contrary is a huge success in the eyes of the wealthy.
It closed the door to Canada and with a few recent tweaks tossed the key
away, made enemies across the border and created a huge black market in
consumer goods, pharmasuticals in particular. It opened the door to
Mexico so now we're trading US jobs for Mexicans, rail lines and highways
across the border have been expanded and improved to accomodate the huge
increase in legal traffic, we even have N de M all over US rails as far
north as Canada. Eh, CN is all over too but they own much of the tracks,
go figure, basically Nixon cut America's throat and with law enforcement
sorely lacking we now try to cope with the illegal Mexican invasion.
Alcohol fueled cars in Brazil is such old news nobody talks about it any
more, it's simply an accepted way of life. There was a flap over it here
a while back but the greenies choked on their own feet and decided
they're better off keeping their fool mouths shut. As a matter of fact
the global warming farce must have put a spike in their coffin as if they
hadn't supplied enough nails, even the "save the whales" TV show went off
the air. I'm glad of one thing, one evening while doing a bit of channel
surfing (I'd never have seen it any other way) a Japanese factory ship
ran down and sank one of their boats. My neighbors were probably
wondering what the cheering was all about, no sports on TV that night.
Oh and thanks for the opportunity for another vent. I leave you with this
thought:
America is living proof that a backward country doesn't have to be a
third world country, all you need are politicians who talk the talk but
can't walk the walk.
