There have been many bulletins about fuel on packet.
The Gorgon Gas Project on Barrow Island off the Pilbara Coast West Oz is
under way at last with 10 000 workers to be put on in the initial
stages. The equipment is being supplied where possible from Perth, giving
business there a big shot in the arm.

The project was opposed by the greens who fear for the welfare of the flat
backed turtle which breeds on the island which is about 30 km long. The
Island is a source of oil also the oil producer being Wapet (WA Petroleum
Ltd). Environmental concerns have been addressed and the project has been
approved by the Minister, none other than Midnight Oil's Peter Garrett.

The assessment report predicts that the natural gas resource on the island
is sufficient to supply the needs of a city the size of Adelaide for 800
years. Lucrative contracts with China and Japan have been signed and the
WA economy and that of Australia has had another boost from the resource
rich West Australian north.

What will be next? Uranium? Well there is plenty of it up there and it
seems that mining will start in spite of opposition from the last
Government and the greens and left wingers.
Cheers,
Bob VK6BE.
