Hi again Tony and all,
My my how things have changed since we were young! Briggs and Stratton
engines unreliable??? Expected life of 50hrs??? So the American workhorse
finally died, and we used to scrounge the engines from old worn out lawn
mowers and run them harder than they had ever known for a few more years
in our "go carts". Then build another for the kid using the same engine,
I thought the things were immortal!
Honda made in CHINA??? Oh man, that's the last straw after those I've
known as being the immortal engine from Japan. When the bikes first hit
American roads the old school bikers sneered (and worse) at the sissy
rice burners but hey, they were always on the road while the Harleys and
a handful of Europeans were in the garage. Honda even built an
experimental engine entirely out of ceramics, no cooling system needed,
waste heat went out the exhaust. It ran on the test bed continuously for
years with no signs of "slowing down", the engineers finally gave up and
shut it down. When disassembled it showed little sign of wear, if the
metal ones were immortal this was the engine of the gods.
WHAT HAPPENED TO THE DREAM???
