I warily (expecting to be shot down by a WW2 Spitfire) submit my 2 cents
worth on the subject.
In the fifties during the Suez crisis, when the canal was blockaded, &
petrol was in short supply, I remember a prominent British motor mag
carried a regular advert for a .....(Trade Name) water injector.
This was supposed to reduce a motorcars petrol consumtion.
Other products such as spark intensifiers were also frequently advertised.
Eventually, the mag had the products tested & the conclusion (to the best
of my memory) was that there weas no noticable saving in petrol consumtion.
I believe that the engine appeared to run more sweetly and this was put down
to the fact that less air (oxygen) reached the cylenders resulting in a
reduced power output as the combustion pressure was reduced during
ignition thus giving the impression of a smoother running engine which I believe
is the same reason that we feel a car runs better in wet weather.
I have buckled on my parashute & am ready to bail out.
