Hi Andy and listeners. I guess I didn't tell the whole story. I don't use
the 4L car round town unless (a) the weather is cold or (b) it is wet
weather or (c) I have to carry stuff around. I have a 500 cc motor scooter
which I use for short running. However there are many uses for which I
would not use a small car.

I play lawn bowls and in my turn transport my team to where we are
playing:
(a) Walpole - 129 km (b) Frankland - 123 km, (c) Denmark - 50 km. (d)
Green Range - 80 km, (e) Mt Barker (two teams) - 50 km. I also travel
frequently to Perth (410 km) and Merredin (400+ km) where I have sons. So
the 4 L car is really needed for much of those trips. In any case while I
run on autogas at half the cost of petrol a small car would give me very
little advantage in fuel economy, if any.

The need for a larger car then is more than just casual. To my mind there
also is an increased safety factor especially on highway running.A nice
little car would cost me about $14 000 new and the advantages of owning
one would never reach that value. The motor scooter cost me $2175 new and
does at least 25-30 km per litre of fuel.

Cheers,
Bob VK6BE

occasional. Most of the time, a nice little car would do you. In fact a
nice little car would 99% of the drivers 99% of the time. There's someone
where everyone can save by using the correct vehicle for the journey.
