Hello Warren;

Those original 1270s are also very good and flexible TNCs. We have a few
of them deployed out in EastNet running 6-pack. Kantronics can't handle
those eproms. While Kantronics makes some good end user-type TNCs we've
discovered they're not that well off for full network node deployment.

I have had some very good success with Symek TNC3s that I imported from
Europe years ago. The eproms are very simple to work with and you have
a good selection of different firmwares you may use such as 6-pack,
xnet, kiss, and others. My TNC3s with my Maxxon was the fastest link
on the network with an average RTTL of 5 or 6 vs that of the 8s or 9s
the Tiny IIs have. Being dual port and modular in design is also a very
attractive feature. It's a shame Ulf doesn't make 1200 baud or even 9600
baud modems for these units. Symek still points to my website for Xnet
documentation in English.

Funny story about that;
When I ran the german docs through a translator program I had (and then
cleaned up what I spotted) there was a protocol it kept saying it could
use called "Panties". I just figured out about a year ago what it was
trying to convert... "slip"! hihi! Funny language and especially those
translators can be ;->
