Have not seen any postings from Brent in a longtime, and wonder if his
racing adventures with his new Hobie16 are over, and he is back home
on his Catalina tucked away in a warm harbour somewhere?
My sailing season ended abruptly in October, when I cracked a kneecap
and thus that ended my going sailing the borrowed 25ft Bayfield.
When I mentioned haulout...the plan was for the owner and I to either
go around an Island, or shortcut it and face swallow water with numerous
rocks and no real marked out channel <there is a way through, but I haven't
used the channel for years and have forgotten what to look for>.
Anyhow, I let him know what happened and he was nice to just ask me to come
for the "ride" ,. Too sit there and just enjoy being out...but my wife didn't
want me going so...I declined. He gave me dates, and what and where he was
going, and all was set for that date. Ooh how plans can change.
The day rolls on and we get the local FREE rag...I open a page and read about
Globy fish and how they are going to close this river <creek> and rescue as manyfish as they can until a certain dte..then pour this pesicide into the river
killing anything...at the bottom is a note to restrict navigation from a date
inwhich my friend is hauling out his boat. This news hit me..Oh no!
So after phone calls and email, the plans changed to rightaway he was up,
sailing singlehanded around the island, mainsail reefed..in a real blow...
blown right down and into the river mouth....and he nearly sailed right up
the river.....but in the end...a phone call thanking me for the information.
He avoided a really long trip. Boat now outta the water.
The club he belongs to is called Sail Georgina, and his boat for sale is
on the club's website <if nearby and want a great boat...this is a good one>.
Anyhow...hope everyone sailing is enjoying the season. For those who sail
year round...I wonder how you cope? Would like to hear at what time you
have the boat out for maintaince? Enjoyed the past postings on this subject
and the experiences with waves...monsters.
