Hi Dave.

I did get your PN to the above topic and tried replying with a PN but, for
some strange reason, we seem to have to send bulls to be sure of getting
there.

I have actually had an SP from Argentina which I replied to and covered by
sending an email. That seems to have been lost as well.

Our health service seems a bit better than yours in that it is cheaper and
OAPs get prescriptions, glasses and dental treatment free most of the time.

Our NHS was better in that we could get an ambulance 'sitting car' to take
us to and from hospital but that is long gone now except for emergencies.
Waiting lists were shorter from the 1960s to the 80s. More recently,
people have actually died while waiting to see a consultant !

For people on a normal wage, since 1997, prescriptions have been very
expensive. I am lucky (?) in that I have two of the conditions which
qualify for a free prescription and having just one of the list of of
serious conditions needing long term medication makes the whole
prescription free.

The whole thing is political. Our NHS started in 1948 when everything
including glasses and dental treatment, was free,In 1951, the incoming
Conservative government put a small charge on all items, then Labour got
back in in 1964 and prescriptions became free again - and so it went on,
Conservative = pay, Labour = free until 1997 when the 'New Labour' party
decided to copy the Coservative party in most things which included paying
through the nose for prescriptions.

Now, after 13 years, we currently have no government as the people have
spoken via the ballot box and nobody has had enough votes to get elected.

It is quite possible that we will get some form of PR and have a type of
voting such as you have, followed be another election which might bring
one of the minor parties into power. That doesn't necessarily mean that we
will go back to a good Health Service but we can hope.

As for Mr O'Bama in Yankee Land. I would have thought that most people
would jump at the idea of paying a small amount of National Insurance so
that they don't have to die because they can't afford treatment.

Thanks again for your SP. I did think I had covered my PN reply with a
Bull but I must have forgotten - sorry.

All the best.
