I noticed a bulletin from someone, can't remember who, about hospital
delays in Australia. The picture was not very bright. I have been shot
down in flames several times for having the temerity to point out that OZ
is a big country and that conditions in the west can be vastly different
from those in the east.

I now have found the figures for our large regional hospital in my city,
published in a newspaper and giving the delays in patients getting
attention particularly in the ER In Albany..

Here they are:
In triage 1: where patients are in a life threatening position and require
immediate attention the result was 100% immediate attention. No delay at
all.
In triage 2: where patients needed to be seen within 10 minutes, result
was 95.8%. There would be no significant delay.
In triage 3 and 4 where patients needed to be seen in 30 minutes, or an
hour respectively: result: 97% and 98% respectively.
The only triage where there was a signifanct delay was triage five where
the treatment required was for cuts and bruises and other minor problems.
Result there 88%.Still a very good result.

Serious cases that need protracted specialist treatment or emergency
treatment in Perth are picked up by helicopter on the hospital lawns and
land in Perth about one hour later. They are attended to on the
helicopter if necessary. A friend of mine was resuscitated while on the
flight when his heart ceased beating. Hr is still alive but with a
pacemaker, installed the same day, he lefty hospital the next day and
was home in two days.

My daughter took her daughter in to the ER qwhen she pulled a cabinet over
onto herself and sustained cuts to her face. While they were attending to
the girl my daughter collapsed and the doctor gave her immediate attenton
- diagnosis - acute appendicitis and an emergency operation was scheduled
for as soon as the theatre was ready. Within a couple of hours the deed
was done and she was in recovery.

Yet some people still complain!! BTW the cost was $00.
Cheers,
Bob VK6BE.
