Taking the last paragraph first, a recent news report here in Oz claims that
"some" exposure to the sun will reduce the incidence of some cancers. It has
something to do with vitamin D.

Looking at UV exposure, this URL - http://www.bom.gov.au/info/about_uvb.shtml
 - from the Australian Bureau of Meterology (BOM) provides a very
interesting insight into UV radiation. It's a good read.

All regional weather forecasts to the media from the B.O.M. contain the UV
index, both maximum and minimun, for that region.
