Sometimes, when the wind howls and rain beats against the window, when
leaves rustle in the street below, I unzip my head, take out my mind,
carefully of course, to investigate the reason for my reason.
I have not yet succeeded. Perhaps this is due to the fact that when I
hold my mind within these two gnarled and weatherbeaten hands, the
wind that rustles the leaves gets inside my head, sending cold shivers
down my spine.
One day I took a bath. I opened up my veins and filling the bath right
up to the overflow with my rich and bright red blood, stepped in to
recline and soak in my own juices, so to speak. It felt sticky and
warm, not that there was anything wrong with that, I might add, but
you see no matter how hard I rubbed and scrubbed myself with soap, I
just could not get a decent lather.
Last night I removed my ribs. It was hard at first but gradually
became much easier. After a while, I found that I could breath much
easier, due no doubt to the increased space and new found freedom for
my lungs. What was I to do with these spare ribs? I asked myself
impatiently, for they were now becoming quite heavy in my hands. I
solved the problem by baking a cake, grinding up my bones to a fine
powdery substance. I burned the cake. It seems I cannot do anything
right. I ate it anyway but it fell to the bottom of my tummy with a
dull thud. That's what happens when you bake a cake from spare ribs.
Tomorrow I did not quite feel myself. It's hardly surprising really,
when you consider that tomorrow never comes, but that's not all, a
part of me was missing. I wish I knew where!
