This is normally because the software has enabled the default video resolution
on your video card to a higher value than your monitor will support. I'm
sure you can change this but I don't havea Knoppix disk at work. Try looking
at http://download.linuxtag.org/knoppix/knoppix-cheatcodes.txt . You have
to press a key at the right time and you get the chance to change the video
resolution the system uses.
Grrr! I've done this so many times but I can't rememeber how unless I'm
actually sitting in front a machine with the screen in front of me. :-(
