Hello Mike.

If you are not interested in working stations, active in the
WW-contest, you can always work stations on the WARC-bands.
On the WARC-bands contests are not allowed. Also if propagation
is ok, you can work stations on 10 mtr's FM.

Some ssb spots (12 & 17 mtr's) from the dx-cluster :

24950.0 XQ3/IZ6BRN 26-Oct-2003 1805Z cq cq cq <iz6brn>

On the classic bands I admit it's not easy to make a regular
contact during the contest. Others Mike, eg DXCC collectors
do like this contest as it give them a chance to work a lot of DXCC
in a short period of time. Our hobby has many aspects. What I like
somebody else does not; like so many other things in life.

>Totally ruined any chance of catching up with friends and making new, and
>learning something about each other, other than how well an over driven
>transmitter splatters.

The overdriven amps one can hear any day of the week unfortunally.
