There is a moderate amount of AM here in the US, around 1.890 mhz, 3880-
3880 khz, 7.290mhz, 14.286mhz, 29.000-29.100 mhz, and 50.400mhz. There is
even a weekly net on 50.400, each friday night from Virginia @ 9pm local
EST.
I work AM from time to time, when I have a chance to sit back an relax
for long round-table style QSOs. Very enjoyable to me! Lots of vintage
gear, while some guys are plate modulating amplifiers and using modern
transceivers to simply provide the RF carrier.
Some of the folks have old-time shacks with broadcast style mics and such.
Some even run converted commercial broadcast transmitting equipment.
Efficient? Nope... Fun? Yes, to many of us it is very enjoyable. Most
choose the lesser occupied sections of bands to "play" on, and do much of
their activity during the daytime.
