Technically SSB is amplitude modulation, OF NOTHING.
Next time you make such a remark, look at a spectrum analyser first, OK?
A carrier MUST be present to be modulated simply because the term AM 
implies amplitude modualation (of a carrier wave).

No, I'm not berating you, I got a chuckle out of your (I hope) tongue in
