Too bad the mode has gone out in your part of the galaxy, it's alive and
kicking here.
I don't see how you could run a pair of 6AQ5s in class B without getting
incredible distortion since they normally run AB1 with about 2%
distortion at maximum output. But then you don't need to push them to get
5W of audio to modulate a 10W carrier. (;->)
Now just how many times did >I< "fool" SSB ops by zero beating them and
transmitting carrier? (another silly grin) After all, my carrier and
opposite sideband were filtered out by the receiver's selectivity skirt.
807s in class >A< ??? Geez, not only were they "expensive" on current,
they must have been expensive to replace. (;->) Somehow the anodes
showing color would have told me I should have kicked up the bias.
Ah, Loran C went off Top Band years ago! Give Top Band another go man,
this time with an AM broadcast transmitter. All you need is the proper
crystal(s) and a screwdriver to retune the RF chain. Nothing like a bank
of 4-400As to put some SIGNAL on the band. BTW, don't mind if they show a
cozy orange glow, they're meant to. (;->)
