You're right, the Far East wasn't a part of the known world until relatively
recently in human history. The Chinese had much knowlege that didn't spread
outside the region until the famous Marco Polo returned with some of it.
Today we know about parasites and have refrigeration, both unheard of when
the dietary laws came about so parasites and rapid spoilage that cannot be
curtailed by salting brought them about. Some may puzzle over why they remain
because they don't understand religion, "the word of God" is written in stone
and cannot be changed. Notice I said written in stone, according to scripture
the core of all Western law, the 10 Commandments was quite literally.
