"Tea cake

Ingredients

2 breakfast cups flour
2 raised teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon sugar
2 tablespoon butter
1/2 breakfast cup sultanas or raisons
Little mixed peal
1 egg
Milk to mix

Sift together flour, salt and baking powder; add sugar and rub in butter;
add fruit. Beat the egg and add with the milk to make soft dough. Knead
lightly on a floured board, make into a round about 1/2 inch thick, mark
into eight pieces. Brush the tops with milk, and sprinkle with sugar. Bake
10 to 15 minutes at 450 degrees Fahrenheit. Serve buttered."

From my mother's old New Zealand cookery book (1956 edition), printed by a
maker of baking powder, custard powder, cornflour and jelly crystals.
