"Honey tea buns

Sift together 2 breakfast cups flour, 2 heaped teaspoons baking powder,
and 1/2 teaspoon salt. Rub in 3 ounces butter, add 1 beaten egg, 2
tablespoons honey dissolved in 3/4 breakfast cup milk, 1/2 teaspoon orange
essence and 1/2 teaspoon ginger powder. Turn out on to a floured board,
roll and cut into small rounds. Brush the tops with milk, sprinkle with
sugar and place a piece of preserved ginger on top. Bake 15 to 20 minutes
at 400 degrees Fahrenheit (205 degrees Celsius)."

From my mother's old New Zealand cookery book (1956 edition), printed by a
maker of baking powder, custard powder, cornflour and jelly crystals.
