Chocolate Cake Recipe
Typed by ZL1ABS (from my mother's old, handwritten
recipe book)

Ingredients

6 ounces (150 grams) butter
2 cups flour
2 eggs
1 tablespoon golden syrup
1 tablespoon cocoa
1 cup milk
1 teaspoon ginger powder
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda

Instructions

Cream butter and sugar, add eggs & golden syrup, add flour, ginger, cocoa,
& baking powder. Then add milk with baking soda dissolved
(Prepare this in a saucepan while the butter & sugar are creaming).
Pour mixture into a greased cake baking tin, lined with parchment paper.
Oven bake for 55 minutes at 375 degrees Fahrenheit (190 degrees Celsius).
Test with a baking pin when done to make sure nothing sticks to the pin
(which would indicate the need to cook for a little longer time, until the
pin tests clean).

Allow the cake to cool down on a rack. Melt one teaspoon of butter with a
teaspoon of boiling water. Stir in one cup of icing sugar (confectioners
sugar) with two teaspoons
of cocoa powder. Add just enough boiling water to make the icing
(frosting)
able to be spread over the cake with a flat knife.
Pieces of milk chocolate may be grated over the top.
