Hi all,
John VK2XY@VK2XY.#SYD.NSW.AUS.OC sent me a couple of replies to my Oatmeal
humour bulletin with some interesting comments about cooking Oatmeal.
"You can improve the taste of oatmeal by adding 1/4 teaspoon powdered cinnamon
[the real stuff not the 'mostly something else variety'] and a table spoon of
dried apple pieces, added at the last minute and stirred well. Very pleasant,
you should try it sometime.
"I first became aware of it (the recipe) some years ago and my wife (Lil
VK2FXY) 'tinkered' with the ingredients until she was happy with the result.
She also uses raisins instead of apple sometimes and the oats she uses is of
the 'old fashioned' type with a low GI index rather than the processed ones
which are 'quick' or 'microwaveable' types. The grand plan is for the oats to
be digested slowly - like the old days - rather than quickly for the latter
types. Good for dieting as one feels full for a longer time, and the body
doesn't create loads of insulin when it isn't necessary. There is plenty on the
internet about Glicemic Index [GI] if you feel curious."
73, David.
