Discontinued items
KANTRONICS Units:
The Kpc-3, KPC-9612, KAM Plus and Enhancement Board for the KAM, our
four most popular Kantronics TNCs,now offer Global Positioning System
(GPS) interface capability. This allows the TNC to be programmed from
the computer keyboard, disconnected,and cabled to a GPS receiver for
mobile operation. This feature was added at Version 6.0 for the KPC-3
and KPC-9612 and at Version 8.0 for the KAM Plus and Enhancement Board
for the KAM. In addition, Version 8.0 for the KAM Plus and Enhancement
Board adds direct G-TOR monitoring in the firmware - a separate monitoring
program is no longer necessary.
The KPC-3 continues to be the bestselling TNC for 1200 baud VHF packet
in the United States and in many other countries. The KPC-9612 offers
dual-port 1200 and 9600 baud packet operation to complement the 9600-
baud-ready radios that are becoming more widely available.
The dual-port KAM Plus, now with GPS interface capability, provides 1200
baud VHF packet operation as well as HF packet, AMTOR, G-TOR, Pactor, RTTY
and other popular HF modes. G-TOR,Pactor, and GPS interface are
available for the KAM only by installing the Enhancement Board.
the Board plugs easily into the EPROM, EEPROM and RAM sockets of any
KAM and updates it to version 8. 0 with the full functionality of the
KAM Plus, including expanded memory (128K), a battery back-up for RAM and
an on-board clock. (The Enhancement Board cannot be used in the KAM Plus!)
The KPC-4, our 1200/1200 baud dual-port VHF TNC. has been updated to
version 5.1 to include the enhanced mailbox features and increased
flexibility of KA-Node operation added to our other TNCs at Version 5.1.
KPC-3s and KPC-9612s shipping from the factory are at Version 6.0, KAM
Plus and Enhancement Boards are at Varsion 8.0, and KPC-4s are at
Version 5.1. EPROM updates ara available to bring pravlously
purchased units up to the latest version.
The optional K-Net raplacement EPROM for the Kpc-3 and KPC-9612 adds the
function of a network-compatible node (TheNET, G8BPQ, NET/Rom tm) while
allowing the TNC to continue to provide all normal TNC functions - a
first in networking firmware! For node-stacking, both K-Net EPROMs
include a software-selectable NET/ROM TM intarface. 128K RAM is
recommended if the K-Net option is installed. Please note: on-line help
messages, NEWuSER command set, and GPS functions are not available in
the K-Net EPROM for the KPC-3. All normal TNC functions are available in
the K-Net EPROM for the KPC-9612.
Any Kantronics TNC at any version level can be used with the popular
APRS (Automatic Packet Reporting System) program written by Bob
Bruninga. Kantronics new Hardware Single Port (HSP) APRS Adapter cable
allows the computer to switch the serial port periodically to receive
data from the GPS receiver and then back to the TNC to copy other APRS
stations.
KANTRONICS Software:
Host Master II+ is now at Version 3.4 and Host Master Mac is at Varsion 2.3
to support the added GPS and G-TOR monitoring capabilities.
Program updates are available. A nocharge update from Version 3.2 or 3.3
to Version 3.4 of Host Master II+ is included on the diskette that ships
with all Kantronics products. An update from Version 3.0 or 3.1 to
Version 3.4 of Host Master II+ is available but must be purchased
separately. PC versions of Host Master below 3.0 cannot be updated.
The update for Host Master Mac below Version 2.3 is available only by
purchase.
Pacterm is a simple terminal program included at no charge on the
Kantronics Program and Information disk shipped with each Kantronics
product. The latest version of Pacterm (Version 1.05) defaults to
comm port 2 at 9600 baud which solves a lock-up problem reported by some
users who have a mouse or other device connected to comm port l. Be
sure to look at the contents of this disk - it now contains product
descriptions, reprints of articles,operating hints and other information
of interest.
rf concepts Amplifiers:
Our rf concepts division has introduced a series of four new
amplifiers designed for use with handheld radios (HTs) . These
amplifiers are small (each weighing 0.6 kg. and only 10.2 x 5.1 x 15.2
cm. in size), but are able to boost the output of a handheld to as much
as 30 watts. The series consists of two amplifiers for the 2 meter band,
the Mini-Amp 144 and the Mini-Amp 144P (with preamp) , and two for the
70-centimeter band, the Mini-Amp 440 and the Mini-Amp 440P (with preamp) .
solid-state preamps on the144P and 440P improve receive sensitivity.
All amplifiers accept 1 to 6 watts input and operate at 5A at 13.8 Vdc.
The Mini-Amp 144 or 144P (144-148 mhz) provides 20 watts output with 2
watts input; 30 watts output with 3 watts in. Preamp gain is 15 dB. The
Mini-Amp 440 or 440P (438-450 mhz) provides 20 watts output with 3 watts
in. Preamp gain is 10 dB. Less input power results in proportionally
lower output. Higher input does not produce output beyond the maximum
specified for the model. Two-meter models are shipping now. We expect
70-centimeter models to be available mid to late October.
Discontinued Items:
the KPC-2 has been discontinued, butupdates to Version 5.0 (last firmware
update) are still available.
The KTU Weathernode, which was preprogrammed to work with sensors we
are no longer able to stock, has been discontinued along with the
anemometer and rain gauge for it.Only the KTU Telemetrynode,
programmable by the user to accept a wide variety of sensors, is
available. Sensors used with the Telemetrynode must provide 0-5 Vdc or
4-20 milliamps output. Wa continua to stock the Telematrynode EPROM
update, which converts a Weathernode to a Telemetrynode, and the external
temperature sensor.
All Commodore software has been discontinued.
Wefax software for the Macintosh has been discontinued.
This brings you up to date on recent product developments. Of course, our
D4-10 and Data Engine (Version 2.0) are still available as is our
complete line of full-sized 1.25-meter, 2-meter and 70-centimeter
amplifiers. We also continue to stock memory upgrades, cables,
replacement manuals, and other accessories for your units.
Finally, but very important to our European customers, wa expect to have
DAMA available in the firmware for our four most popular TNCs very soon.
