Hi Folks,
Thanks for reading this and a happy new millenium to you!
I have a Kantronics KAM w/Enhancement Board, firmware Ver 6.1
I've read the bit in it's manual about NAVTEX and am already somewhat
familiar with the service. I'm on the coast :{D and I've found what
appears to be a regional NAVTEX beacon site on 518 kHz with my little Sony
7600. However not sure if NAVTEX is 518 kHz reference, mark or what nor
which mode I should have the radio in, ie LSB/USB. I've used HF packet
quite a bit and done a lot of RTTY/SITOR/AMTOR monitoring in the past so
familiar with reversed signals, shift and rate parameters. I'd like to get
the Kenwood TS-440SAT on to this project and improve the antenna
situation.
In the 1999 Canadian Coast Guard publication Radio Aids to Marine
Navigation NAVTEX is listed as F1B/radioteletype and only two stns are
listed, Prince Rupert ID 'D' and Tofino ID 'H' which is one I'd be more
likely to receive. What I do pick up is 'CL' in cw. A look through my old
FAA Location Identifiers pub and Grove's Shortwave Directory don't reveal
anything on CL. Neither does my '96 edition of the Canada Flight
Supplement.
Any ideas on how to improve my chances or ID what I have found would be
appreciated. Even talking with a local Cdn Coast Guard telecom tech didn't
help.
Thanks es
