 KANTRONICS and the Y2K BUG
===========================
The following subject originates from the home page of Kantronics:
http://www.kantronics.com
Kantronics Year 2000 Statement per unit
---------------------------------------
General Statement: The "year" date stamping is not used for most
applications of Kantronics TNCs. Therefore, for most amateur and
commercial applications, the transition from 1999 to 2000 will not
disrupt normal operation. For application s where date stamping
is used, such as mail forwarding, the following information is
provided:
 Category I: Automatic Compatibility
-----------------------------------
The KPC-3 Plus with version 8.3 firmware
The KAM '98 with version 8.3 firmware
For Category I unit listed above, on January 1, 2000, the TNCs will
automatical ly roll over to reflect a date of 2000.

Category II: Adjustment to Compatibility
----------------------------------------
Category II consists of the following amateur and commercial TNCs:
KPC-3 Plus (up to version 8.2)
KPC-3
KPC-9612 Plus
KPC-9612
KAM Plus
KAM with Enhancement Board
KWM-1200
KWM-1200 Plus
KWM-9612
KWM-9612 Plus.
For Category II TNCs, on January 1, 2000, the last two digits of
the year will a automatically roll over to "00." To present a
four-digit year date stamp, the DAYSTRING command (DAYS) can be
used to change the first two digits of the four-digit daystring
to "20" so the date stamp will show 2000 instead of 1900.
Samples of possible format strings using DAYSTRING (DAYS) are:
DAYS dd/mm/yy hh:mm:ss displays 01/01/00 07:10:20
DAYS dd/mm/20yy hh:mm:ss displays 01/01/2000 07:10:20
DAYS dd.mm.20yy hh:mm displays 01.01.2000 07:10 (ss opcional)
DAYS dd.mmm.20yy hh:mm displays 01.JAN.2000 07:10
For exact instructions on how to use the DAYSTRING command, see your manual.

Category III: Old Compatible TNCs
----------------------------------
Older Kantronics TNCs produced ten years ago or more, such as the
KPC-2 or KPC-4, display the year in only two digits (such as 98,
99, or 00). A four-digit display is not available, therefore the
year 2000 will be presented as 00.

Applications
------------
The only application in Kantronics TNCs that uses the year is the
forwarding of mail, affected by the PBFORWARD command. If you do
not use your TNC for this function, you will not need to make any
adjustments to your TNC to achieve Y2K compatibility.
Specifically, current versions of firmware (AS LISTED BELOW)
either automatically roll over or may be set to reflect a four-
digit year with 2000. (See catagorys I and II above.)
Some earlier versions for mailbox use only the two-digit format
and will show "00" on January 1, 2000 (see Catagory III above).

 Happy New Year
