SPECIAL EVENT STATION PA6VGN DURING JOTA 1997.
From October 10th. till October 20th a special event station will
be active from the premises of Scouting "De Voerman" in Groningen
The Netherlands.
Amateurs who now, for the 7th. time give the scouts of "De
Voerman" the opportunity to be part in the JOTA, arranged for
this special call as "their Scouting-group" in this year has its
80th anniversary.
Paul Voerman (NPV = Dutch Scouting Association by that time)
founded "De Voerman" in 1917, from a group that initially was a
bicycle-group.
Till 1970, apart from some female staff, no women were found in
the group, however after the merger with the J.F. Kennedy-group
this situation ended.
For years they have held their meetings in old schoolbuildings
but when the new district of Groningen-town, by the name of Beyum
was founded, they got their own scouting-facilities in an old
farm-house.
Unfortunately this farmhouse burned down some 5 years ago and
once again the group wandered from building to building but in
the meantime a brandnew communitycentre has been erected at the
place of the old farm-house in which also "de Voerman" got back
their facilities.
Earlier this year members and ex-members gathered for a reunion.
80 years "De Voerman" is an excellent opportunity for the call
PA6VGN (Voerman Groningen) by which group also the call PA3GEI/J
will be aired.
