YUGOSLAV NATIONAL SCOUT JAMBOREE 1997
Organizer
Scout Association of Yugoslavia (Serbia and Montenegro) was founded in
1911. It was a member of the WOSM since 1922 until the forties. It
renewed its work in 1951, and became a member of the WOSM again in
September 1995.
Yugoslav Scout Association has over 27 000 members divided into different age
sections ( 7-11 years,11-15 years, 15-20 years and over 20 years).
Programme for all sections has emphasis on the individual development in
close connection with other members of the group and on the collective
work. The work of the units is based on the outdoor activities, protection
of environment and lately on the work with refugees and the lonely.
Time
2 - 11 July 1997
Participants
Boys and girls of the age between 11 and 20.
Standard troop has 36 members plus four leaders. There cannot be mixed
patrols.
Motto of the Jamboree
Motto of the Yugoslav National Scout Jam-boree is
ON THE PURE SIDE OF LIVING.
Motto implies that scouts take future in their hands with much energy
and joy of living and that the fun of living and prosperity lie in the
young.
Jamboree emblem
Jamboree emblem has popular design with the use of rainbow an the sun
as the symbols and frame of living.
Jamboree site
The site is situated in Smederevska Palanka, a place about 70 kms south of
Belgrade.It is the region of [umadija, rich with woods and lovely slopes .
There are many possibilities for recreation.
The Camp can provide accommodation for 8 000 scouts.Camp facilities comprise
toilets, baths, fire site, sporting playgrounds and room for other activities.
There is a lake near the camp site.
The paths inside the Camp are asphalted which makes them convenient for
walks and bicycle rides.
Camping equipment
Each troop should bring their own sleeping bags.
Telephones
There is a sufficient number of telephone lines connected with the
international links.
Participants from abroad
The organizer, Yugoslav Scout Association is specially interested in the
participation of the largest possible number of scouts from neighbouring
countries, Europe and the whole world in the National Jamboree.
Scouts from other countries can come to Jamboree with their troop, patrol
or even single.
Application
Each scout unit that wants to participate in the Jamboree should ask for
application forms until 31 December 1996 and send them before 1 March 1997.
The plan of transport
When planning transport you should bear in mind that there is an
international airport about 80 kms from the camp site and that there is
the railway station near the Camp. There is also an international road 10 kms
far from the Jamboree site.
Passports and visas
Each participant from abroad must provide himself with the entrance visa for
the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia.
Home hospitality
The participants of the Jamboree from abroad are offered home hospitality
in Belgrade, Novi Sad, Ni{, Podgorica, @abljak, Kraljevo, Smede-revska
Palanka, Po`arevac, Zaje~ar and other towns. The application for home
hospitality can be submitted to the Headquarters of the Jamboree.
Climate
Yugoslavia has mild continental climate.Summer is warm and long.
The temperature in July goes up to 32(C during the day and during the
night it is about 15(C.
Participation fee
Participation fee is 495,00 YUD, or 150 DEM.
Programme of the Jamboree
Programme of the Jamboree is made up of various challenging and
traditional scout activities. Meeting many new friends is one of the
main aims of the programme. There will be many opportunities for water
activities, hikes, recreation and amusement.
The daily schedule
Usual daily activities are reveille, personal hygiene, meals and various
obligations.
The Opening ceremony will be held at the central site with all the participants taking part in it. After the Opening ceremony participants will have the welcome party.
Programme activities will be held in the morning hours.
In the afternoon sporting and recreational activities will be held.
Evenings are reserved for cultural activities and parties.
Wood and equipment for pioneering
Each troop will get the necessary equipment and wood for pioneering.
Personal documents and valuable belongings
There are possibilities for protection of valuable belongings and documents
(plane tickets, passports etc.) from damage and stealth.
Press centre
There will be Press centre available for journalists during the Jamboree.
The rule of the Jamboree
During the Jamboree alcohol, smoking and drugs are forbidden.
FESTIVAL OF SCOUT SONGS (FIP)
The Festival is one of the most significant musical manifestations of
Yugoslav scouts. It has a rich tradition. The Festival was held for the first
time in 1974 and until present days it has given our Association over 300 new
scout songs.On these festivals many young scouts have showed their rich talent.
FIP estimates the artistic value of songs, texts and vocal abilities of
singers. Two age sections can take part: 7 - 11 years and 11 - 15 years.
The Festival affirms songs about outdoor life, about scouts and their units.
It is held in Ni{ (250 kms south of Belgrade), a town with rich past and strong
scout tradition.
The Festival will be held for 15th time in the fall of 1997. During the visit
of the General Secretary of the WOSM Jacques Moreillon to Yugoslavia it was
agreed that the Festival should have the international character. We invite
you to let us know if you are interested in taking part in it We will provide
you with all the necessary information and application forms.
