Hello all !
The month of October is with us again and so is the World-Wide Scout Jamboree
on the Air (JOTA). This year, this will be on Saturday 21st October and Sunday
22nd October,1995. That is 48hrs.
For those how do not yet know what this event is all about I will give a short
idea :
A weekend, once in a year, all the Scouts,Scouters,Cubs etc., greet
eachother on the air with the help of amateur radio. The contact is frst
established ie. Callsign, RST, etc, and then the scouts can give messages to
eachother eg. their name, hometown and involvement in the Scout Movement.
This can take place between two Scout Jamboree stations or with other
conventional amteur stations, ie. everbody is welcome to call.

Our local Scout group, The Birkirkara (or B'Kara) Scout Group will yet again
this year participate in this exciting event for the fifth consecutive year.

B'Kara is a major town in the main island of Malta approximately in the centre
of the island. By the way this is EU23 for IOTA fans. B'Kara is the hometown of
some 30,000 people making it the most populated town in Malta and third largest
in area. (Of course this is Very small compared to other foreign cities).
However it is situated in a considerably low altitude and well surrounded by
other villages. SO: we are going to hold our special station in another
village. And this is higher, the highest in fact- DINGLI.
Dingli is situated about 800m asl and touching the South coast, and the
Mediterranean Sea well visible in nearly all directions.

We will set up the station on Friday evening ie 20th.
We hope to be well equipped : 2 or 3 IBM 486 for packet/logging/sattelite
tracking using TSTHOST,FASTLOG AND ITRACK as software.
Trancievers will include a TM-251, DJ-580E AND TH75 FOR VHF/UHF use.
And TS-450SAT and TS-50S will run most of the HF traffic, with accessories like
an MFJ-ATU, MC-85 and hopefully a small linear maybe touching 400W pep for good
copying between stations. Antennas will be :
              2 dipoles for VHF/UHF,
              Cushcraft R5 vertical for 10m thru 20m,
              G5RV for 80m thru to 30m.

We will be thus active on 80m,40m,30m during the local night mainly checking on
20m in late evening or early mornings for the occasional DX. Otherwise traffic
during the day will be from 20m to 10m. The WARC are inclusive but usually we
occupy the conventional 5 bands for most of the time.
Also SSB is the main mode but CW will be definately be used but depending on
propagation, QRM, traffic and moods we feel like. But surely for myself I
prefer the CW for the evings or nights will taking coffee trying to keep awake,
Hi !
The callsign will be 9H3BKS (9H3 is not too common so it might be a good
contact if you don't have Malta especially on some CW 80m.!!
The station will start at 0000Z but tests with homecalls will start a few hours
earlier. The station will however be dismantled about Sunday afternoon ie. we
do not stay for the end of the event. (Monday we're off to work)
The station will of course be handled by licensed amateurs:
     Main operation & equipment : 9H1AM (Adrian M.Borg)
                                  9H1MS (Martin Sammut)

Enormous help by : 9H1FG (Tony Vella)
                         9H1GP (Mark Vella)
                         9H1YE (Edwin) / 9H1JC (Johnny) / 9H1BD (Herbert)
(These last three are brand new hams - congratulations !!)
Of course others are expected to come visit/help/look/eat !
These include the Scouts Ithemselves who keep up the morale, cook and the whole
scope of the event !
I hope to circulate this message under some more titles at later dates.
Untill then ,hope receive from you at 9H1AM @9H1BBS.MST.MLA.EU
or 9H1MS @9H1AX.SLM.EU.MLA
or QSO you on the air. QSL info is via buro or direct to 9H1FG.

73 and all the best, hope cu and GB.
                                          ..de Adrian 9H1AM.
