Hello Scouts, Guides, and Scout & Guide leaders worldwide,

This greeting comes to you from the Bay of Islands Amateur Radio Club
in the Far North of New Zealand's North Island. My name is Bob, and my
personal callsign is ZL1VB (for volleyball, my favourite competitive
sport); my wife (ZL1WFD)'s name is Yvonne. Other hams involved here are
Arthur (ZL1ACD), Ron (ZL1BYW), and Ian (ZL1CBD). We may also have some
help from ZL2BER, Russell and ZL1IU, Nick.

Did you know that New Zealand is also known as Aotearoa? That is the
name given to this land about a thousand years ago by the first human
settlers. Did you know that New Zealand was the first nation to give
women the vote? I can crow about what a wonderful place this beautiful
country is, because I'm an immigrant--my original callsign was WA6GOE.
And, of course, we're still nuclear free!

We expect to have 100 - 200 scouts & guides participating this year,
ranging in age from quite young through to late teens. Our 1996 QTH for
JOTA is (down in a hole, unfortunately) at Trefoil Park, a Guides' camp
south of the town of Kaikohe. We will be QRV on VHF packet (and, of
course, checking all the BBSs we can reach for any incoming messages) and
on 20m and 80m SSB. Naturally, we'd like to hear from you.

73 from the Land of the Long White Cloud de Bob ZL1VB

                    ZL1BOI @ ZL2TMQ.#01.NZL.OC
