Howth Peninsular Festival (Sundays News Only)
The Howth Peninsular Festival takes place this weekend. Among the many
events taking place is the operation of an amateur station from the
Martello Tower, which houses "Ye Olde Hurdy Gurdy Vintage Radio Museum".
Listen out for the HPF callsign on ssb, cw and on 2 metres FM around the
morning news time. The station will be active from approx 11am until
whatever time the operators decide to go QRT.
Why not drop by and enjoy the many indoor and outdoor events taking place
in Howth today, and top it off with a visit to the station. Tony, EI5EM
and Joe, EI4FV look forward to seeing many visitors and indeed would
welcome CW and Phone operators to the shack. The web page for the museum

Worked HQ Stations Award
The Polish Telegraphy Club and the Polish Radio Amateur's Journal are
sponsoring the 2005 Worked HQ Stations award for working HQ stations during
the upcoming IARU HF Contest. The basic W-HQ-S is earned for 10 QSOs with
HQ stations representing all three IARU Regions. Special endorsements are
available for each 10 additional QSOs / Heards. Rules and picture of the
W-HQ-S Award are available on the Web at whqs2005award.prv.pl.

Alcock & Brown Replica Flight
At the time of writing, The Alcock & Brown replica flight was due to take
off at any time & indeed could land in Clifden before this news reaches
you. See www.clifden.ie for links and more details. The original flight
landed within sight of the Marconi Station, which was active at the time.

Repeater News
The EI2WRC voice repeater at the Ridge of Capard was restored to normal
activity last Saturday the 25th of June. The repeater had been off air
recently and underwent some improvements, thanks to Neil EI3JE and John
EI8JA. The EI2WRC Voice Repeater is part of the Southern Ireland Repeater
Network. Reports are welcome to repeaters@searg.com.
The Cork Repeater Group is at present in the process of upgrading both the
2 metre and 70 centimetre repeaters, and wishes to apologise for the
interruption of service, it is hoped to have both back in full service
soon.

Rally News
The Mayo Radio Experimenters Network Rally be held on Sunday November the
20th at the usual venue, the Belmont Hotel, Knock. Doors open at 11:00 a.m.
Bookings for accommodation should be made directly with the hotel. The
rate is 50 Euro per person with a special all-in rate of 70 Euro for Bed &
Breakfast and evening meal. Traders should contact Padraic Baynes EI9JA
for exhibition space.
The Waterford Rally will take place on the 16th of October 2005 in the
McEniff, Ard Ri Hotel, Waterford. Special room rates are available for
those attending the rally; Bed and Breakfast for 2 nights plus one dinner
is 89 Euro per person sharing. Bed and Breakfast for one night plus 1
dinner is 55 Euro per person sharing. A 19 Euro for single supplement

Packet News
TIPBBS is still quite active and links with EI3RCW in Waterford have been
improved of late as has the CAHIR Node. Since the crash early in the year the BBS has had a complete Re-Vamp, although much of the available files have been lost, there are still quite a few handy tips and other bits of data if you simply send the W command followed by W (Directory) this will give the
contents of the requested directory. So why not give the packet a try?
It's free and contents and connections are all Virus free as well.
If anyone is interested in participating in ongoing APRS experiments in the
South East please set your UI PATH to WIDE2-2, this would include anyone in
the coverage area of the Mt. Leinster Voice Repeater and the Repeater in
Waterford City. All experiments are conducted on 144.800 MHz. Contact
John Ronan, EI7IG for more information.

The QRS net on Monday the 27th was the last QRS net before the summer break.
There will be no formal net in July and August. Further information can be
obtained from EI2JP or from the Kerry Amateur Radio Groups web site at
www.kerry.com.

Digital Radio Mondiale
DRM (Digital Radio Mondiale) is a revolution in long-distance radio
transmission. It allows international radio broadcast in digital at a high
fidelity, similar to that of FM. The technology is designed to fit on the
AM band and is more than just an audio service. DRM can carry text and
graphics and is enabled to carry real-time Internet pages along with
programmes.
