GREAT BRITAIN--When D.C.Jim McNulty went on line to report that a London
officer had been killed in the line of duty and two others injured,
comrades from other countries wondered why bullet proof vests had not
worked.McNulty explained that the government do not supply vests for
officers in Great Britain.
It did not take long for Las Vegas Police Lt.Dennis Cobb to respond via e-
mail and offer his spare vest.Within days McNulty was deluged with
messages from police all over the USA and Canada offering their
vests, which were due for replacement but still effective.A few weeks
later,an initial shipment of 30 vests was transported free of charge by
Virgin Atlantic Airways from Bostons Logan Airport to London
Heathrow.Since news of the programme broke 1500 more vests have been sent
to Britain.McNulty said"All the officers here are absolutely astounded at
the lengths their fellow officers have gone for them"(Having experienced
US IPA Hospitality I know this to be NORMAL and always feel ashamed of our
limited hospitality Ed.)
Anyone interested in receiving the "National Monitor" it comes out monthly
details from WILL W1WA QTHR.
I seemed to have filled up this one with the US News but you had better
get it while hot off the press.Hope the cold weater has not effected you
too much.Cold here but NO SNOW or below freezing temperatures yet !!
You may have received two copies of the last Packet News, this was due to
the link to DEVON being jammed by a local ham who pirates other peoples
call signs and so far we have failed to interest the DTI or RSGB in doing
much about it.
73 for this week.Look after yourselves.RON GU4XGG/GP4IPA
I am not losing my marbles if you have read this Packet News before Good
Show as with a change of BBS at the Plymouth end I have had problems in
that all the mail for OUTSIDE the UK has been returned. I therefore would
be pleased if Stations OUSIDE of UK and EI would acknowledge receipt of
this Packet News.
LOOK AFTER YOURSELF IT CAN BE DANGEROUS OUT THERE ON THE STREETS
