G-IPARC Data/Packet Newsletter 120
Hello friends and colleagues,
Like so many of you I felt that the imminent demise of the Packet/Data
newsletter (introduced and produced by Ron, GU4XGG) could not be allowed to
happen, so with his permission I have stepped in as a "caretaker" of the
production whilst Ron takes a well earned sabbatical.
I would hope to see Ron back at the helm to report on the Hong Kong situation,
that will shortly be on the main news, as we know Ron has access to inside
information, on what is really happening out there!
That reminds me of my introduction to Amateur Radio 27 years ago, when after
saving pocket money and doing odd jobs, I bought an "HAC" valve receiver kit,
I could listen to Radio moscow, tirana and beijing and the like and wonder
when watching BBC who was telling the truth? The kit came with few
instructions and my aerial matched the diagrammatic symbol, a vertical with
three prongs on top all made from "Meccano". Can anyone remember the HAC radio
kits or Meccano?
NEWS AT HOME
1. Due to various and personal reasons Mike G3PGA, has stood down as
Secretary, and Ron GU4XGG, has stood down as Chairman. In the meantime Harry
G0GFP, is acting as secretary until the AGM sorts things out. I am sure I am
not alone in thanking Ron and Mike for their services to G-IPARC over the last
few years.
2. My phone and packet system have been reeling under requests for an
alternative G-net away from the QRM of the weekend, so if you are about can
you try Wednesday at 1100 local on 3.762mhz, and if it takes off perhaps we
could form something permanent, the retired and shiftworkers net!
3. Charlie WILSON GM4UZY e-mail address, lost in Brian's computer upgrade is
now confirmed as:- cmw.wilson@zetnet.co.uk
4. Enquiries for the Isle of Man trip are coming in, hopefully deposits will
follow, it is still early days, only 1 update on arrangements, the 'flyer'
should read 7 days instead of 8.
5. The G-net on Sunday 8th June 1997 saw 6 stations braving the static,
including yours truly on his new 80m aerial.
