Compiled By RON GU4XGG/GP4IPA Dated.06/01/1997

From: G0JXP@GB7DEO.#32.GBR.EU
Hi Ron and all members of the IPARC - I thank you Ron for your 101 and
have read it with a smile! - plenty there and newsey. May I, through this
medium, wish everyone a very very happy, peaceful, prosperous and HEALTHY
New Year (1997). My son came around to us on Boxing Day with a dreadful
cold - which I am now wearing, so with a large box of tissues, some Asprin
and a bottle of 'Woods' I shall raise my glass to you all with above wish.
Remember that a pessimist is never happy unless he is sad, and even then
he's not happy! 73 - Ken, G0JXP @ GB7DEO

Hello Ron,
Your message took a bit more than 8 days to get here ...
Must be the cold weather I guess.(No just the Cross Channel Link or lack
of it Patrick XGG)
Here on the continent I can confirm you that we encounter the same
problems
every Winter.
Links are falling down, due to the frost and negative temperatures.
You know most links are on 23 cm and to have a competitive network syspos
do try to reach each other as far as possible.
So they install antennas on elevated sites and use beams.
In normal conditions S/N ratios are OK, but when the antennas are frozen
they loose a lot of signals and some links have RETRIES or fall down.
I think this is quite normal; though some could say ... why not trying
to warm up the antennas ? ... Well probably this is an aidea, but lets
not forget we are Hams and no professionals and I guess warming up means
an important installation on mast ... not to speak about the electricity
consumption.
OK for your Familly "moto". Yes, that's the correct translation .. but I
wonder if this had an Historical explanation.(No idea but I was not around
in the year 1200 XGG)
Like "Ni dessus = not Uptown , Ni dessous = nor downtown" or something
like this ....
Regularly old "mottos" have Geografical or function relations.
Well, I do not know if you have many alcohol control on the road on "GU"
but hre this period is rather "dangereous".$(We take them off the road for
THREE YEARS First Offence and a fine of œ600 , SECOND OFFENCE FIVE YEARS
off the road and/ or Three Months Jail + œ900 Fine.I suppose we do not
really like the offence of Drunk in Charge. The same scale applies for
failing to give a breath or blood sample XGG)
Thought I do not drive that much , nor far , I have already passed some
controls on the road.
Today I went to a garage to see my new car ... I've been waiting for some
time now ..('Cause of the Truckdrivers strike in France).
So I have nothing more in the car now , (VHF/UHF/HF) and I expect to have
my new mobile tommorow or next week.
I am a bit uncertain what I will do to place my "TANK antenna" system on
this new car. Last model I placed an heavy system and must say, it was a
bit over-calculated I think.
Anyhow it made me possible to place an 8 meter long whip on the trunk..
when stopped .. of course !
Gerard ON6BG and JOs‚ ON7JN use the same system ... it is a system made by
Gerard ON6BG with a remote controled ATU in the car.
OK Ron, that's it for today !
I just came back home, and I have to work today (Night shift) so I will
have to finnish now.
All my best 73s en Servo Per HAMikeco..... hi !

I am aware that the end of June 1997 may seem a long way off but can we
give it some thought.
When Mark M0ADH asked for some help for a Special Event Station that he
intended to run at Sheffield in conjunction with a South Yorkshire Police
Open Day,I thought it presented a good opportunity to have a meeting of
members "North of Watford".As conditions on 80mtrs. have been pretty foul
over the last few weeks there have been few opportunities to discuss this
matter on the air.So I gave Mike a bell on the landline yesterday to sound
him out. What we will put in place and await your reaction/support is the
following:- At Sheffield on FRIDAY 27th.June 1997 a meeting in the lecture
theatre police HQ at 1900hrs.
At 2030hrs a Social Evening at The SYP Sports and Social Club.
Overnight accomadation can be booked at nearby Hotel/Travel Lodge for
details contact Mark M0ADH DIRECT not me.Block booking if sufficient
numbers.
On SATURDAY Special Event Station at Traffic Division Garage.
Evening free but Social Club available for those not
travelling down to Longleat.
ALSO on SATURDAY EVENING a meet in a Pub somewhere near
Longleat for those who might be staying at the Travel Lodge WARMINSTER.
SUNDAY SYP CAR AND MOTORCYCLE SHOW AT SHEFFIELD.
SUNDAY MEETING AT LONGLEAT MOBILE RALLY.
THe AGM can be held at either meeting depending on the support that is
indicated before hand.
Now please pick the bones out of that lot there must be something to
please someone in some of it.This is only a suggestion and as this is a
democratic club it is you the membership who will decide.
My thanks to Mark M0ADH who does not yet know what he has let himself in
for.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Yesterday Sunday the 5th.Jan I was unable to hear anyone at 1900hrs
although I did hear TWO UK stations.I think the main problem is that one
has to QSY a long distace to get a freq. clear of QRM/QRN and the skip
distance is very critical which makes holding a net very difficult.
At 1600hrs the conditions were beeter and we had SIX stations up including
Wilf in Nothern Ireland and Rodger in Belgium. So its just a question of
adjusting ourself to the time the skip and conditions are available.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Omce again BEST WISHES for the coming year and hoping to put a number of
faces to voices and callsigns.

News from Derek G0RZP. :- On Tuesday 11th.Feb.1997 at the DEWSBURY POLICE
STATION Brian G4MNWs widow will be present when the G4MNW Award is
presented by The Chief Constable of The West Yorkshire Police Force.
It will be held in the conference room at 1900hrs.There should be some
80mtr. activity around that time if conditions allow.
I know not who it will be awarded to, but understand that it is a large
silver cup.And as they do not trust Police Officers;neither do I,the cup
will be retained by The Constabulary !!!

From :AA2WM @AA2WM.#NLI.NY.USA.NOAM
Saw a note from Nige in one of the recent ones about his Internet email
address at Compu$erve and it prompted me to send this info on to the gang.
If you have one of those complicated, hard to remember, non-HAM related
email addresses, AMSAT has a free mail forwarding service available to all
licensed HAMS.
Just drop a line to:listserv@amsat.org
and tell them that you would like an email address. Tell them your
callsign and they will give you the following email address in return:
yourcall@amsat.org For example, mine is aa2wm@amsat.org
Their server will automatically receive and resend your mail to your home
email address. This is really nice for keeping your HAM radio callsign
separate from other internet activities for security purposes. The turn
around time, from what I am told, is minimal, perhaps several minutes at
most. CUL, 73 de Bob - aa2wm.ampr.org. Ä44.68.48.8Ü

...........................................................................
I have been asked by the sysop of GB7PAB Joe if, when you receive this
that you could send me a return message acknowledging receipt in order to
confirm your route.Failure to do this might mean in future that you will
not receive Packet News. HIS REQUEST NOT MINE.
At the moment the Packet News goes out in two sendings. The First generated
at GB7GSY for local consumption here in The Channel Isles. The Second
generated in Plymouth at GB7PAB for all other stations.
Soon it is hoped that all Non UK Packet News will be sent via. a Server at
GB7GUR for onward transmission by the HF Euro Link.
This will ease the load at PAB and the UK Network and we hope will speed
the transmission.
At the same time a simple Header and Footer will be adopted for the Non UK
Packets as I understand that HF transmissions are queued by size order and
not date order, and the Footer and Header add a lot to the size.
...........................................................................
WE had Four stations up at 1600hrs on 80 mtrs. today.Conditions not bad.We
tried again at 1900hrs but a UK station running a linear came up and
blotted all out.I think we could have worked QRP with a bit of Wet String
but Power they have to use.Sorry about that chaps but I lost you all in
the QRM.
Nothing else for this week.Best wishes once more to you and your families.
