Islands On The Air
===================
==========================================================================
The following frequencies are considered IOTA meeting
places: CW - 284, 2492, 214, 1898, 144,
1115, 73 and 353 KHz; SSB - 2856, 2846, 2495,
2126, 18128, 1426, 755 and 3755 KHz.
==========================================================================
# NA-56 - CO3VK, Jose Gamboa, will be traveling to Isla de
la Juventud (NA-56), for his job. During his free time on the
island Jose will be active as CO3VK/4 from March 17 until
March 2th. Look for him on 2 and 4 meters SSB. He
may also be joined by two or three other operators.
DX Bits and Pieces
------------------
# 1S - Spratly Islands - 4F2KWT, Gil, is currently QRV as
DXK from on Pag-Asa Island, one of the Philippine Spratly
Islands. Apparently his fuel supply is running low and there will
be a limited amount of operation of about two hours a day,
from 12 to 14Z plus or minus. Sometimes during the
day he will be using solar panels from about 2Z onwards.
# 4S - Sri Lanka - K4RB (SU9US), Bob Blumberg, an active
contester, is now licensed as 4S7EXG from Sri Lanka.
Reports are he is working on installing antennas. He probably
will not have antenna for 16 meters but will have a vertical for
4/8 meters plus antennas for the higher bands. At the
moment he has not secured a QSL route but will let us know
as soon as possible.
# 9N - Nepal - LA7JO, Stig, will be operating as 9N7JO from
Nepal for the next year. Look for him to be QRV on 15 through
16 meters on CW, SSB and RTTY. He doesn't have an 8M
antenna yet and has "S9+++++ noise" on 8M and 16M at
his present QTH. He can't copy anything on 8. "Even on the
other bands it is very bad, so I know a lot of people are calling
me, without me being able to copy." Stig is trying to find
another QTH for 8 and 16 but it'll take time.
# 9Y - Trinidad & Tobago - ZP5AZL, Tom and several others
are going to be down in Trinidad and Tobago between March 3
and March 11, primarily for the ARRL SSB DX Contest. Before
and after the contest they want to look for JAs and others out
that way to help out with those deserving DXers! N3BNA,
Dale, would like to offer skeds on CW for any JAs or other
Asians who need the contact on the low bands or WARC
bands. He will likely be available after the contest. For skeds,
please drop an email to Dale at Dale.long@prodigy.net.
# BY - China - W8NF, Dave, thinks he may be active from
Shanghai as W8NF/BY4AOH or W8NF/BY4CYL sometime
between March 13 and 21. He hopes to put an emphasis on
2 and 4 meters CW looking for North America.
# C5 - The Gambia - MNBY, Noel, plans to be active as
C56/MNBY from The Gambia from February 25th until March
3rd. He will be mainly active during his evenings on 2 and 15
meters and possibly 4 meters. This will be an SSB operation
only. QSL via MNBY.
# DU - Philippines - K7QN, Carl, will be in the Philippines
during the month of April and is already licensed and will be
signing DU2/K7QN on 1, 15 and 2 meters. He will be
hanging out primarily around 142 and 14277.
# F - France - To celebrate the 3th anniversary of the twin
cities of Itterswiller in Alsace and Brehat, F5AEG, Laurent, and
a new ham Frederic will be operating as TM3OBI from Brehat
Island (EU-74) from May 4 to 8. They will be active on SSB,
RTTY and PSK31 from 1 to 8 meters. QSL via F5AEG.
# FP - St. Pierre & Miquelon Islands - FP/K9OT, Paul, and
FP/KB9LIE, Peg, will be on from St. Pierre & Miquelon July 29
through August 7, operating from "the world famous Room 5 at
Maxotel on Miquelon," using CW and SSB, 1 watts to wire
verticals, and a beam for 6M. They will concentrate on 8, 4
http://www.mhtc.net/~k9ot.
# FT5W - Crozet - FT5WJ, Crozet, (F5BU, Jean-Paul), says
he is on 14278 every day from 1615Z-183Z and again before
dinner at abuot14-1515Z. He hears many stations calling him
but they can't hear him. He thinks it's because of asymmetrical
propagation. He wastes a lot of time calling guys who can't
hear him, and other stations cause troublesome QRM. Jean-Paul
asks that only stations who really can hear him enough
for a QSO call. He summarizes that he is very busy with his
job and cannot spend 1 minutes for each QSO!
# J6 - St. Lucia - 6 Meter ops look for WB9CIF, Mark;
K9JE/J68AR, Jack and N9AG/J68AS, Scott, to be active from
St. Lucia around June 28th to July 7th. They will be running
6 watts into a 6M7JHV from grid square FK94mc, which is
about 1 meters ASL and has a clear shot towards NA and
EU. They may also try to operate from FK93.
# PJ2 - Netherland Antilles - PA3CNX, Peter, reports that he
will be operating from Bonaire Island in the Netherland Antilles
(SA-6) from February 23 to March 14th. Look for him to be
QRV on 6 through 8 meters SSB and CW as PJ4/PA3CNX.
QSL via PA3CNX.
# S7 - Seychelles - S79JAG, with OE3JAG, "Dr. Karl," should
be active July 22-August 7, a "DX holiday style operation."
Karl will have his FT-817 5-watt rig along, to a random wire
and dipole. QSL via OE3JAG, Dr. Karl Jungwirth, Adalbert
Stifter Strasse 25, 2232 Deutsch Wagram, AUSTRIA.
# TR - Gabon - La Gazette du DX, a French DX bulletin,
announces F4BQO will be QRV as TR8FC from Gabon until
July 26. QSL via F8BUZ.
# TT - Chad - PA5M, Michael Dirksen, is back in the
Netherlands for a few days and will depart for Dubai, United
Arab Emirates early next week. He hopes to be QRV from
Chad by next weekend for about 2 months. Mike will request
TT8M, however if authorities refuse his request he will go for
TT8MD.
# V3 - Belize - Members of the North East Wisconsin DX
Association (NEWDXA) will be operating as V31TR in the
ARRL DX SSB Contest on March 5-6. They will be in Belize
from March 2-9 operating on all bands and modes. QSL to
W9DXA for the contest and to their home calls for pre-contest
contacts: W9MDP/V31GR, NZ9Z/V31NZ and W8JWN/V31TR.
~# V3 - Belize - W6JKV, Jimmy, will be in Belize from June 23
to July 6 and will be operating on 6 meters. He plans to be
QRV from the 4th floor of a villa on the ocean. Jimmy will have
a 6MJKV (68 foot boom) and amplifier and hopes to make the
first Belize-Europe QSOs. Look for V31IV mostly on CW.
# VP5 - Turks and Caicos Islands - K9RS, Ray, will be at
VP5B for the CQ 16 SSB CONTEST and the ARRL SSB DX
Contest. He will be using VP5/K9RS before and after the
contests. Send QSLs for VP5/K9RS via the bureau or direct to
K9QVB, John. John will not be the manager for VP5B as there
is another manager for this call.
# XE - Mexico - On Thursday March 24th the XE1RCS contest
team will test their 16 meter station from to 6Z.
This year, besides the 8 beverage antenna system, they will
test two 1/4 wave verticals in phase. For many DXers outside
of North America this is the best chance to work Mexico and
CQ zone 6 on top band. XE1VIC, XE1MM, XE1KK and others
will use the club call or their own. QSL via QRZ.COM in all
cases.
