Hi Ray and all,
Since Google is (hopefully) about to bite the dust we may as well mention
audio. (;->) We have another name for Bose, one guess and you have it
right. As for moving a lot of air again right, you need a really big
piston so maybe that's why Sony came out with a 30" woofer that never
sold, there comest the point of diminishing returns since 15" is the norm
even in theatres. Altec-Lansing had the AL500 Voice of the Theatre around
for years and sometime in the 70s made a home version of the famous
reflex system and a smaller air suspension type but ruined them by using
that crappy cellular horn "tweeter" that sounded brassy. Fine for voice
projection behind a movie screen but terrible for music. Having obtained
the factory prints my friends and I reworked it and produced a fine
sounding system using the original woofer but with far better high
frequency components.
Alas I'm stuck with home brew bookshelf speakers, those monsters take up
far too much real estate I need for other things like a bed. For the
benefit who don't recall where they heard "the bigger the better" maybe
you never heard of Texas where EVERYTHING is bigger. Oh, they brag about
their women too and we here in New Jersey tend to ignore them especially
that Texan in the White House.
