It all depends on just what you want from the Internet, Andy. I find it
almost indispensible now.
Over the past five years I have researched my family tree going back for a
couple of hundred years. I edit a magazine and use a lot of material from
the internet, cartoons and information. I am a musician and the Internet
is a great source of music of various genre, much of which is no longer
copyright. This includes actual notation or words or both. I recently
bought a bass clarinet on eBay from overseas for about $AUD1000 less than
I would have bought it in Australia. I have gained friends in other
countries to whom I can speak using skype or one of the other telephonic
programmes.I keep contact with relatives in various parts with no cost to
me.I use the news service provided by my ISP. Email? I rarely buy stamps
or envelopes now; most of those with whom I keep in contact are on email,
and this includes the societies to which I belong.I am secretary of one of
these. I have downloaded games which I play when I feel like it. My
grandchildren use the Internet as a valuable resource for research for
their studies.
Running costs? Well, cost of some programs, but much of what is needed is
available free of charge - just download it.ISP fees? Cheap! Electricity
costs? Well so has your TV or radio.
What do you want from the Internet?
Cheers,
Bob VK6BE.
