Hi Bob and readers,

"I cannot see how bouncing spam is going to affect someone else's mailbox
unless it is addressed to that mailbox."
Precicely the point, when someone's e-mail address is spoofed the return
or bounce is to that address. That has happened to me, I have received
"undeliverable mail" from addresses I never heard of and even been
admonished by a server for sending spam when I do no such thing.

"...bounce marks the mail as unable to be delivered. Bouncing does not
confirm my address."
Agreed, I was unaware of that.

Just the same I would never bounce spam or anything else since that would
make ME a spammer in the case of a spoofed address.

"I keep another email address for friends and trusted contacts. I get no
spam on it."
Likewise, I have several and each has it's purpose. NOPE! I don't get
spam on them either, the servers are armor plated, I don't need
Mailwasher or anything else. I let the techies worry about that, i can't
be bothered, they get paid, I don't. (;->)

Oh, one more reason not to bounce. During a DoS attack you contribute to
it by flooding the network with bounces. That's what it's all about,
flooding the network with junk of one sort or another is denial of
service (DoS) because it overloads the servers causing them to shut down.
It may seem small to you, a message here, a message there, but it all
adds up to monstrous proportions throughout the Internet.

The bottom line is just like mama told you, ignore them and they will go
away. (;->) Like I said before, no reply makes your address an
unprofitable black hole.
