Well, Warren I'll let you skite about megavolts! Have your day! Everything
in the US seems to be mega. The only thing of size we can boast about is
the state of Western Australia which is one million square miles in area,
and has one cattle station as big as Texas!! Oh yes! We have the biggest
rock in the world - Mt Augustus, several miles long and twice the size of
Ayer's Rock!
I don't know what the main transmission lines from some of the major power
stations are but the lines coming to my city of 30 000 people are 330 kv
and that seems to be quite enough for us. Of course this same rural city
has a power farm with wind mills and that supplies a fairly hefty chunk of
power to the city. Another outback town I have visited has a huge solar
boiler and they generate from that. All rural telephone systems, beacons
(maritime and land) are run by solar power. All intercity telephone
systems are microwave or satellite - no poles and wires anywhere but we
are not claiming to be unique in that.
