Hello Phillip.

I'm resending this reply, as you may not have received my SP to you.

You asked about changing form VHF to HF in your MFJ 1270 TNC.

You are right about the dip switches.

For 300 Baud...SW1 (only) Should be ON. The rest should be OFF.
For 1200 Baud, You will have SW2 (only) ON. The rest OFF.

Pushing the VHF/HF button on your MFJ1270 only sets filters for the 300
Baud reception. You also need to set the TNC parameters. Page 16 in the
manual. Like this....Word length...8 bits.
                     Duplex........Full
                     Parity........None
                     Stop bits.....1
                     Baud rate.....300

Be sure to set MONITOR ON, and XMITOK OFF to prevent transmitting. I presume
your licence permits VHF only, hence your comment re 'MONITOR HF'.

Then, you should set MAXFRAME to 1 to minimize your transmission time.
Increase FRACK to allow for the increase in transmission time on HF.
You could also experiment with PACKLEN, DWAIT, and TXDELAY.

Tuning is more critical, and retries will be increased due to propogation
delays and phase distortion.

Best wishes from Dick, VK3ABK @ VK3KAY.#WEV.VIC.AUS.OC
