Hi,
I always make it a habit to continually look around while using these
machines, especially for anyone taking more than usual notice of me and
what I am doing. I key the number in with one hand, which is covered by
the other hand. If someone stands too close, then invite them to move
back (I do), after all you are conducting a private transaction with the
ATM.
You should also be wary of being observed as to which pocket you put
your wallet after the transaction. One trick is to mark your back with a
chalk cross to indicate you have used the ATM, have a worth while amount
within your wallet and which pocket it is in. This happened to me once
and an unsuccesfull attempt was made some minutes later to 'lift' my
wallet.
You should also be aware of innocently patting the pocket which contains
your wallet, when you see a sign such as 'Beware of pick-pockets'. This
makes it obvious where to look, making the pick-pocket's task even
easier.
