Unfortunately, he chased some of his more crackpot ideas with great
fervour, and neglected the practical working ones he realised. Unlike Mr
Eddison, and a few others who where better business men.
Some of Tesla's ideas would have been better sellers in the hands of
Verne, Shelly, Twain, Lovecraft .... this undermined his credibility.
Besides
being a threat to big business /politics /military, and likely a target
...

If his patents have expired (99 years? I don't know)
Some of his brilliance may very well re-appear with better technological
and manufacturing back-up.

He does make fascinating reading, quite a character ...
