Hello Ian and the lids,
Last things first, nobody was being a lid in the 70cM CQ you mentioned.
Just because a station calling CQ doesn't give his QTH doesn't make him a
lid, I never do. Just saying CQ de KB2VXA gets the desired response and
the details are given once contact is made. S.O.P!
I wouldn't call him a lid either if he was a hundred miles away calling
on an IRLP node down the street unless he was calling CQ DX. Now that's a
landline lid! HA! Not all of them are on packet these days, GROAN!
NO! I'm not knocking IRLP, I have used it and I think it's just fine,
just don't consider it working DX like some seem to think.
Come to think of it, Tom being right about how the term came about, the
very FIRST lids were LANDLINE LIDS!
Hmmm, I never thought a silly tag line would spawn two serious
discussions, buried antennas and lids.
LOOK OUT WORLD, more LID tag lines to come!
