G'Day Allen and all,

Here in (Victoria at least) a catenary is also known to refer to the
strainer wire in an overhead cable.

I guess that this also fits in with the trolley, or railway overhead
system.

I quite often use a cable, usually a single pair of wires, but sometimes a
multi-pair cable, with a catenary wire moulded to it (them).

The purpose of the catenary is to take the strain of the wire between
poles. It is usually made of a thick (by comparison with the conductors)
steel wire, and is peeled back to allow the cable to hang without strain,
while the steel wire is the strainer.

Cheers
Rod
