At least the rain would have been warmer (when the sun WAS out)!
Sorry people - couldn't resist that.
I fell into the same trap in 1960 riding a Lambretta from Edinburgh back to
London.
Having had a bit of a look at York I headed off mid to late afternoon
travelling South-West -- with the sun on my right hand of course. I mean
where else should it be in late afternoon ??
BAD IDEA !! I must have travelled for an hour before I realised that none
of the places I expected from my map had been noticed - map reading on a
scooter is a fairly specialised occupation. Finally I did find a village
name in time to realise that someone had shifted the sun.
I made it back through York and as far as Tadcaster where I found a bed in
a lovely old Pub with ceiling beams some six or seven feet from the floor,
a wonderful Inn-keeper who fed me and insisted my bike go round the back
under shelter in the stables (otherwise unoccupied).
Cheers all, thanks Barry for the reminiscence,
