It's surprising how many people report noticing things like the moon being
'upside down'.
That's one thing I can't say I've paid much attention to but I began to
wonder if certain natural phenomena might produce instinctive responses in
us.
I've often mentioned that I was raised in the country. I can't comment on
the direction of rotation of water, we had the 'dunnies' at the bottom of
the garden and they didn't use water:-)

What we could do was know what time of day it was and the direction, just
from looking at the sun; due south at mid day and moving at 15 deg hour.
WE didn't need to think about it, we just did it.

We were also good at meteorology. We could predict the arrival of a squall
to the minute and know when we could go and bring in hay or corn, mainly
from looking at the sky. I discovered years later, that part of what we
were doing was using the 'crossed winds rule' without even realising it.

Both of the above would, of course, be only correct for the northern
hemisphere. Trying to use the same things 'down under' could cause big
problems.

I have noticed that town and city dwellers seem to have no idea of
where they are or what time it is without a watch and a map, so we
probably learnt our country essentials from our elders.

City people probably spend more time looking down the WC,Hi!
