As member of our Civil Defence, I'm used to work in the lights from a
Tilley. We have them in two versions:
a) 500 lume net for common use
b) 6,000 lume spot-beam
1 lume is nearly equal to 1 Watt in lighteffect, why you see, there's a lot
of power behind.
When not in use, there'e tested once per year, and any problems fixed right
away. Last time we used them for real, was 9 years ago. But we wont dump
them, because they're still usefull and our electric Honda-generators may
be used for more importent things, than lights.
They both runs on petrolium and common lampoil. Tests has been made with
normal diesel, but the smoke causes problems.
We're told to be carefull using the spot-beams near costline. They ealier
seen to confuse shiping, where a few ships could not figure out, why they
was not told, a new lighthouse was build, and why the light was permanent,
instead of blinking, hi.
So it's not history. Tilley's still going strong.
At my own cottage, I use common petrolium lights when operating outdoors.
It's cheaper than batteries.
